On 15th July 2021, in a move to deepen its commitment to India’s digitization and economic recovery journey, Google announced the opening of its newest cloud region in Delhi NCR.
At the event, Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud has been credited for revitalizing Google
Cloud since he took over the division in January 2019 said, “India is one of the fastest-growing countries for his business globally.” Well, that’s certainly true. The fact is that other cloud market leaders like AWS and Microsoft Azure also have a substantial presence in India. While AWS has cloud regions in Mumbai and Hyderabad, Azure has them in Pune, Chennai, and Mumbai.

Wondering What are Cloud Regions?
Cloud regions are data centers that offer a full range of cloud services and solutions. The simplest explanation is that a “cloud region” describes the actual, real-life geographic location where your public cloud resources are located.
Yes, it’s a common misconception that the “cloud” is just an intangible storage space. As we said, the cloud is just a name for actual devices that process data. They’re data centers, and they live in places.
The Newest Cloud Region
Delhi-NCR will now be the 10th cloud region in Asia-Pacific and 25th globally. It will allow Google Cloud customers, operating in India, to benefit from lower latency and higher performance of their cloud-based workloads and data.
Talking about the new opening, Kurian said their second cloud region will allow customers in
India to also run additional systems in the cloud to handle solutions like disaster recovery and data location. He added, “It gives us the ability to provide more capacity for growth over many years and is a large commitment from us in terms of capital, in terms of infra and growth, and is designed to allow us to capture the opportunity we see around growth coming from existing and new customers.” With organizations all across India, he said Google Cloud will be able to provide services to a broad set of customers.

Google Cloud is here with its second cloud region in India to support businesses and help them become smarter with data. They aim to help organizations in deploying faster, connecting more easily with people and customers throughout the globe, and protect everything that matters to their businesses.
During the announcements, it was also found that this new facility by Google Cloud will also help in ensuring data sovereignty and opens with three availability zones to protect against service disruptions. It also offers a portfolio of products including Compute Engine, App Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, CloudBigtable, Cloud Spanner, and BigQuery.
In their news release, Google Cloud said it will continue to support our customers with people and education programs and is investing in local talent and the local developer community to help enterprises digitally transform and support economic recovery. They further added that through their India Digitization Fund, they have expanded efforts to support India’s recovery from COVID-19 through programs to support education and small businesses.
